The Measurable Impact of Releasing Tension From the Body

Since 2012 we have worked with individuals experiencing physical, emotional and mental stress. Through the Total Release Experience® Programme we collect anonymised data to understand how releasing tension from the body affects wellbeing.

Participants complete questionnaires before and after their practice, record personal journals throughout the process, and review their progress after several sessions.

The results consistently show measurable improvements in physical health, emotional stability, mental clarity and behaviour.

Independent analysis from Canterbury Christ Church University confirms that the outcomes are statistically significant.

How We Measure Change

To understand the impact of the programme, we measure changes in several areas of wellbeing.

Participants report how often they experience symptoms before beginning the course and again after completing the programme.

We measure five areas:

Physical wellbeing
Emotional wellbeing
Mental wellbeing
Behavioural wellbeing
Clinical mental health scales

The charts below show the average changes reported by participants.

‘We can be 99% confident that the  results to physical, mental and emotional well-being are not due to chance but a genuine statistical effect’

Independent University Evaluation

In 2021 we commissioned Canterbury Christ Church University to review anonymised data collected from participants of the Total Release Experience® Programme.

Their analysis concluded:

“ We can be 99 percent confident that the improvements in physical, mental and emotional wellbeing are not due to chance but reflect a genuine statistical effect. ”

This independent evaluation provides strong evidence that releasing tension held in the body can lead to meaningful improvements in wellbeing.

Clinical Measures Used

We also include widely recognised mental health scales used by professionals worldwide.

These include:

GAD 7 – Generalised Anxiety Disorder scale
PHQ 9 – Patient Health Questionnaire for depression
Warwick Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale

Including these recognised tools allows us to measure change using established mental health benchmarks.

GAD-7

GAD-7 is a recognised anxiety screening tool used by mental health professionals to assess levels of anxiety. We include this measure to help identify the level of support participants may require.

PHQ-9

PHQ-9 is a recognised screening questionnaire used by mental health professionals to assess levels of depression.

The Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scales

The Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scales are designed to measure mental well-being and to evaluate projects, programmes and policies. We include this to determine if there is a positive shift in clients’ mindsets as a result of engaging with our programmes. We include this scale to evaluate whether participation in the programme leads to measurable improvements in mental well-being.

Evidence Supporting a Body Led Approach

The results presented here demonstrate that when individuals learn how to release tension safely from the body, improvements can occur across physical health, emotional balance, mental wellbeing and behaviour.

These findings support what many participants experience firsthand. When tension leaves the body, the whole person begins to recover.
